Appt China turns 3 Years Old!

Happy anniversary to us!

Appt China turned 3 this week and in honour of the occasion, we’ve invited our managing director Joy to reminisce on the year that has passed.

Since our 2-year anniversary in June 2019, Appt China has travelled the world to help clients in Europe and Asia. Our adventures have included…

  • Building an interactive lighting installation in the newly opened Plaza 66 in Henglong

  • Helping renowned London gallery Gladwell & Patterson build brand awareness on WeChat ahead of their participation in Beijing’s Guardian Fine Art Asia 2019

  • Working with Lady Penny Mountbatten and portrait artist Ralph Heimans, whose works include official portraits of HM the Queen, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and The Prince of Wales, on their Chinese social media accounts ahead of trips to China

  • A special trip to the Emerald Isle and Adare Manor in Limerick County for a digital communications consultation and exploration of a long-term partnership

  • Helping Therapy Audit and Innovate UK to develop the Clearhear Beetroot app

  • And last but not least, working with international private equity fund Daozuan Assets to build their website

It’s been a fun year! We’ve enjoyed working with our fantastic clients on their digital needs - from Ireland and all the way back to China.

Summer

Joy Quan, Managing Director of Appt China, spent the Summer of 2019 traveling all over China to attend opening ceremonies, trade missions and expos. In the UK, Sales Director Anna Bollinger spent many a hot day in London, meeting with renowned British brands to discuss how our digital communications services in China could help them reach new audiences.

Towards the end of the Summer, Appt collaborated with Yimeng Design to create an interactive wall for the opening of Springcity 66 in Henglong. Yimeng Design provided design and concept, whilst Appt built the WeChat mini program that allows visitors to interact with and use the wall.

Autumn

In Autumn, the wind in the sails of our clients led them to China, but not before a helping hand from Appt.

It was our pleasure to work with Lady Penny Mountbatten and contemporary portrait artist Ralph Heimans, whose official portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth and celebrated depiction of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh hangs in Westminster Abbey and is in the Royal Collection respectively. Ahead of their joint trip to China, Appt consulted with them regarding their digital communications and set them up on WeChat.

Soon afterwards Joy herself set off from China to reunite with Appt UK in Sheffield, and Appt’s social team left for Adare Manor in Ireland. We explored the 5* hotel and golf resort and provided a Chinese digital consultation. We also discussed the provision of ongoing digital communications services in China. We have enjoyed working with award-winning Adare Manor over the last six months and we are excited to be partnering with them as they expand into the Chinese market.

Appt China then handed the traveling baton over to Gladwell & Patterson, who went on their annual trip to Beijing to exhibit at Guardian Fine Art Asia. Appt worked closely with the historic London gallery in the late Summer and Autumn to establish their presence on WeChat through content creation and translation.

Winter

In December it was Anna’s time to travel. She followed the migration pattern of the Siberian seagull and set sail for Hangzhou, after an invitation from the British Consulate General in Shanghai to speak at a conference on female entrepreneurship in tech.

Joy also saw an invitation extended by the British Consulate General in Chongqing and the Department of International Trade. The British Trade Envoy Richard Burn, and Cecille El Beleidi, Consul General in Chongqing, were visiting the Yunnan Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, and Joy had the pleasure of joining them.

Later that Winter we reconnected with Therapy Audit, a previous client. Currently, the majority of hearing aids on the market are based on single tone languages, which isn’t ideal for the Chinese language, which is a multi-tone language. Clearhear, a partnership between Therapy Audit, Innovate UK and Guangdong Science and Technology Department, is committed to creating hearing aid solutions for multi-tone languages. Appt worked with Clearhear to build a WeChat mini program to assist in data collection and diagnosis.

As we move from Winter to Spring, you may have noticed that Appt underwent a little colour refresh, to welcome 2020 in style!

Spring

In China, we welcomed a new decade with the Kunming Spring Festival reception.

The new decade was also affected by COVID-19, first in China and then in the UK. During the pandemic we have continued to provide our clients with digital solutions in the midst of this new normal we all find ourselves in.

Appt China launched Daoxuan Assets’ new website, providing the private equity fund with an updated digital presence and a new way to connect with their clients.

Appt adapted quickly to working from home, but found we needed ways to connect with each other and have fun. Appt China returned to the office in March, when Appt UK went into lockdown. Team Tuesdays, Wear It Wednesdays, Think Thursdays and 5 o’clock Beer and Boogie Fridays (we couldn’t get there with an alliteration) have kept us sane!

Looking to the future…

COVID-19 has shown us all how integral digital services are, and how the digital landscape is continually shaping our working and social lives. We’re looking forward to launching exciting projects and to see where the winds will blow us next…
