SELFIEREG APP DEVELOPMENT

The Client: SelfieReg is the creation of senior university lecturer Peter O’Neill. The company aims to simplify the registration process at educational institutes by using facial recognition technology.

The Challenge:

Peter O’Neill is a lecturer at Sheffield Hallam, where a group of students had built a rudimentary prototype of the SelfieReg mobile app and its online database. Peter needed designers and developers who could work with him to produce a fully functioning and commercially viable app.

The Solution:

Appt worked closely with Peter O’Neill to produce a fully functional and commercially viable version of SelfieReg.

Using SelfieReg, students are able to log in using their university email address and a password that has been sent to them via email. When they log in for the first time, they are asked to calibrate their app, and their device will take selfies of their face from a variety of angles. Students are then able to register their attendance or absence to all sessions they are enrolled in by taking a selfie of themselves. Students will also be able to use the app to register another student’s attendance.

Using SelfieReg, lecturers will be prompted to review and verify the submissions for each session. Lecturers will also be able to register attendance on behalf of students who don’t have the app. Institutions and lecturers manage the SelfieReg app by using the web portal, where they are able to add and remove students and lecturers to the app; input and edit modules and sessions; view stats on classes and students; invite lecturers to cover a class and edit automatic student absence emails.

SelfieReg manage the platform through a back-end web portal, which allows them to monitor app usage, clients and admin users. Appt works with SelfieReg on an ongoing basis to resolve issues, improve functionalities and further develop the app.
